polgara
Ok my friend decided to set up a golf fish tank. After gettin her mums smaller tank (mum went big) she set it up, cycled it, and then got the fish. 3 little gold fish. All 3 died within 8 days. Only one showed a sign of kinda changin to a blochy black colour. Ok 3 weeks gone by, 7 fish in total have died. (brought 7 in total) The last one to die also showed the blochy black colour. Only other thing that they show is sittin at the top of the tank. Please any ideas on what is wrong with her tank??? Everything she puts in there dies. Caryl
Did all the goldfish come from the same place? My book suggests perhaps a flagellate infection of the gut. This is if "one or more fish are continually dark, ranging to black. They stand apart from the others and do not feed anymore. A slight bloating is often apparent." A small area going black, thickening and scales standing out can be a mailgnant growth but I doubt all the fish would have had one of these! Have you tested the pH, ammonia and nitrates? I can't think of any of them turning the fish blotchy black though

Pegasus
Hi Polgara, You say: After gettin her mums smaller tank How small is small... what size is the tank? What size were the fish, and how many were in at the same time..? Fish remaining at the surface suggests something is definitely wrong with the water conditions, either heat, (too much) .. lack of disolved oxygen, or perhaps high ammonia or other levels, although as Caryl points out, these would be unlikely to cause the blackness. Alan
My guess is that the fish are poisoned. Bet the tank has been made with the wrong silicone. It HAS to be acetic cure. Other wise it becomes a DEATH-TANK Alan
Caryl
But I assume her mum was using it before without problem?
