scrabble
I have a 300 L tank with 4 convicts, 3yae, 1 clown loach and 4 demasoni (was 6 2 died in the last 24 hours) - building up slowly, 2 of the convicts paired off and now one of the males is chasing everything in the tank. I wonder if they have eggs somewhere in the tank, regardless, I also wonder if the demasoni are dying becasue they are so stressed from the male convict chasing them... anywho my question is, should i remove the male or the female convict. I have a 40 litre tank that they could go in or the female. My thinking is - take the male out, that will only temporarily solve the problem as the female with pair up with another male - remove the female - hopefully stops the aggression. As previous to the two convicts 'hooking up' there was no aggression and they tank was a happy home... Any thoughts?
Ira
I thought it was common knowledge that you shouldn't have more than 1 convict in a tank. So you have 1 male, 1 female, what are the other two? If you don't remove all of one gender you won't solve anything...And even then you might get two of the same sex pairing up. scrabble
Apparently no -it isnt common knowledge. The LFS sold me 4. the other 2 are both male. As I said it has all been peaceful until now. The female had babies who a different male a few weeks ago. Looks like those have all been eaten and now another male - bigger - is chasing everything. Mel
Hi, convicts are nasty burgers and when they pair up they are even worst - in my expereince with them I find the females to be the more aggro - how big are the convicts and dems? I would remove the female.
scrabble
convicts are huge compared to the demasoni. I decided to try and remove the female, but catching them is proving difficult.
Mel
i would say that the convicts proberly have been stressing the dems - make sure there is plently of hiding places and caves for the dems to chill out in. Also are you going to increase the clown loaches as they do prefer to be a larger groups of at least 6+
scrabble
I thought the same....damn 2.00 fish! Re clown loach - he was a 'spare' from my old discus tank, so i guess I should....
