firenzenz
what are Tankmates? What sex is Nic. any other fish showing any signs of stress. If only Nic sounds like there is someone in the tank that has developed a disliking for it. Nics do like being in a groups, they are quite stressful when alone, and this is often represented by them being nippy and antisocial to others, but without backup I don't think they are that tough. I've seen them go from hero to zero in very short time.
Navarre
Ditto also what feeding regime is he/she on? Sometimes this can affect/effect one fish more than others?
Matto
he is nipped on the fins and i feed him flakes but he has only had feeding blocks for three weeks
Morcs
he is nipped on the fins and i feed him flakes but he has only had feeding blocks for three weeks Get him on some cichlid gold. only cichlids such as angels and dwarfs should be fed flake really. There are much better foods out there for larger cichlids!
Matto
ok thanks
Navarre
Also if he is in poor nic ( yes I know) then his fins may look ragged rather than actually be nipped, however treat him as if they are nipped and watch fish interactions to see who is bullying him. have to aggree these fish are much better in a school/group situation. If he is really black then good luck
Matto
he is with another nic a female ,two giraffes and two colbalts i dont see any aggression towards him so it was probably the lack of food and he is not black black just really dark looking . There are much better foods out there for larger cichlids! lol I know plenty of people with big fish who feed nothing but flake and they do fine on it.. Yes bigger fish will get more out of pellets but they can do just as well on flake, it is possible if he has got run down and lack of food then something may have set in. Maybe worms or a bacterial infection or something like that, but if he is still eating then try feed him up first, maybe even separate him for a while to ensure he actually gets a good helping of food. If that doesn't work and he is still not fattening up then you may have to go down other roads..
