MarkLB
Hi geana_wolf. I would've thought that you'd see ammonia after 2 weeks. How big is the tank and what livestock do you have in it?
BikBok
I used JBL filter start with one of my new tanks and never saw any spikes either
geana_wolf
oops sorry. The tank is 60cm wide by 38cm deep and about 45 high i think i know its got about 90L in it and there are 4 gold fish. I havn't added anything other than Aqua pluss for the chlorine and melafix for a week becasue one of my fish was looking a bit ill before i moved them to the bigger tank. there are no live plants and two snails and lots of bubbles+i have two filters running a fluval 3 internal and the tanks built in filter ( aqua one AR620) the fluval filter has one sponge from the old tanks filter in it cut to size and the stones are moslty all from the old tank. just wondering if maybe ive missed any spike or if its still comming :-? oh and how often are you suposed to do water changes? i do a 20% water change once a week. so in the new tank ive only done one water change so far. thanks guys
Caryl
If they are small goldfish you may not see a spike at all as the filter will be able to build up the good bacteria slowly in harmony with the fish waste. If you are cycling slowly and properly this may be the case. I would do the once weekly water changes as you usually would, or when the nitrAtes get too high. A tank is considered done when the ammonia and nitrIte have reduced to 0 and nitrAtes have begun to rise. The water changes will keep the nitrAtes low (aim for less than 50mg/l, less than 25 is better though)
