trace&steve Posted December 8, 2009 Report Share Posted December 8, 2009 we have a golden chinese algae eater he has always been in with our africans and seriously he really looks like hes going to pop he would seriously be about 6cm wide do algae eaters get that fat :-? :-? im actually worried about him its not like we over feed him because we dont feed him.. hes in a 670litre tank!!! does he have a eating disorder or something???? lol he has red marks on his skin from being so fat :roll: any ideas will he be ok :-? cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

(scales sticking out and everyfing) Take him out and put him in Quarentine for a week. Wifin 2-3 days he should be back to normal again. (if its not Pine Cone) He prolly juss ate too much lol. Mel Posted December 8, 2009 Report Share Posted December 8, 2009 If the scales are sticking out and it has a swollen belly then it will more than likely be dropsy - which is usually non treatable and not a good thing. I am sorry to have to say this - but I personally would put the wee fishie down. By the time you notice the scales sticking out the internal organs will be pretty much damaged. Plenty of topics on here about dropsy, unforuntately, I think the general consensus is that when they get to pine cone stage its too late. The damage has been done. I've only ever had a couple of fish with dropsy and despite my efforts at treating them with antibiotics, they died. Edit: Woooo 1000th post!
