JK
Rightio, In the processing of putting a higher flow powerhead on the filter in my tank. The new one (similar to pictured) has an extra outlet(?) on the bottom where as the previous one didnt. Where would this normally connect to or be used for? For the meantime I am just going to block it off somehow.
JK
Surely someone must know? thought it would be a pretty basic one for those that use larger powerheads....
spoon
a lot of powerheads dont have the top 1. i have a powerhead that has two down the bottom at 90deg apart. either block it up so all the water goes out thru the top one or leave itas it for some current in the tank
kiwiplymouth
One of them will probably be to add an air intake if you want it to spit out bubbles through the outlet
suphew
As spoon says, it is to give you the option of feeding a tank top filter like the Jebo's have or sucking up through a corner filter like the Juwel (I think) tanks. You should be able to block off the one you don't need. If your not convinced put it in a bucket, plug it in, and try it out.
JK
thanks all. Have blocked it for the time being and the top one goes to the filter on top of the tank. Might have to unblock that second one though and put some current in to the tank as at the moment the filter on top is going pretty hard. Powerhead flows 900ltr/hr vs previous one of 450ltr. Plenty of flow for a 110ltr tank!
smidey
One of them will probably be to add an air intake if you want it to spit out bubbles through the outlet thats what it is for, there should be a clear fitting with a pipe & adjuster for the amount of air to let in. alternatively the power head should have the same part without the outlet if you didn't want air. i choose not to use the air type fitting. JK
I didnt get those bits smidey - just bought the powerhead is that the same one thats on your sunsun tank mate? this was an upgrade for mine
smidey
I didnt get those bits smidey - just bought the powerhead is that the same one thats on your sunsun tank mate? this was an upgrade for mine yep it is. the other thing with using that is the litre per hour reduces as water goes out the outlet rather than up to the filter. the other attachment should fit if you have it from the other powerhead. JK
no such fitting with the other powerhead as it only had 1 inlet and 1 outlet. I have found a cap that fits over my 2nd outlet - might drill a small hole in it to relieve some of the filter flow and add a wee bit of current to the tank. btw, if you need spare powerheads - can source for $16-20 each so nice and cheap! smidey
how many lph? the outlet will reduce the filtered flow.
JK
Standard one with my tank was 450 ltr/hr This one is 900ltr/hr so a big step up. If I take a bit off using the outlet maybe 750-800ltr could be a good target. Still got it going at full tit right now and its cleared up the tank pretty dam quick after the mess i made mucking about with it late this arvo
smidey
cool, you will be pleased with extrafiltration. just be careful the outlets & filter boxes are coping ok with the extra flow, watch for over flowing. I'm pretty sure if it over flows it will flow back into the tank at the end but just make sure.
