Red bubble coming out of vent...

Hi guys, I've had this guppy since he was a fry. I separated him out early on because he had quite interesting colouration.

Yesterday he started swimming near the top but showing not other signs of illness. This evening he was still at the top and now I noticed he has a strange red bubble coming out of his vent. He's always been fairly skinny.

Are these some sort of intestinal parasites or worms causing this problem? I've heard livebearers are prone to Camallanus and am worried about the other fish in my community tank. He is now quarantined but I heard its contagious.

What would be the best/most readily available meds to treat him?

He is still quite lively and isn't breathing heavily but isn't eating as readily.

Cheers.

I had a guppy with a similar problem – I also thought it was a prolapsed gut. In my guppy's case, it would disappear and reappear over the space of a few days. Like your's, mine had always been quite skinny, and after this began it started looking skinnier. She eventually (after a couple of weeks) died, I'm sorry to say, but whether it was this problem or something else that killed her, I'm just not sure.

If it is gut that's hanging out, I guess moving him into a quarantine tank to keep him away from any other fish that could bite at it, would be a good idea, and probably put in a bit of meth blue to ward off any fungal thing catching hold of him.
