killifan
can anybody help please? I put my two gouramis back in the main tank after figuring they were both males  but the juvenile male swordy hassled them. One g. has developed mould, stress i guess so is in a small tank with Tonic in the water. The other fish looked off so put him in the small tank too. A couple of days later, he suddenly started turning somersaults then looked VERY drunk. I did a big water change thinking the salt (1.5 tspns to 10L) might have upset him, added more tonic and some other stress reliever. He spent the next two days slowly dying. Does either Tonic or salt affect the ph level because it was about 6.6, when normally it is about 7.2. The other g. wasn't upset by anything. Is there anything particularly that makes sick fish jump and splash?
dan_from_nz
did you take the time acclimatizing them?
Alan
Was the tank cycled properly. Sounds like ammonia poisoning to me Alan
killifan
the tank has been in use for about 4 weeks by these two fish while we discussed the gender issue on this forum, so i just popped them back into the tank they had been living in quite happily. killifan
does the addition of Tonic or aqau salt effect the ph level of water? Why would one fish die and the other which has the mould be quite happy?
dan_from_nz
yes the addition of salt does effect the ph, and i assume the gh as well is it mould or is it fin rot? as the death and fin rot could both be side effects of stress and any change in the conditions would not help this
killifan
there was no sign of mould or fin rot on this fish. The fish that had mould on it is stuill swimming round quite happily in the same tank.
