oneeyedfrog
Hi, I just got a 2nd hand tank that is 115cm x 38 x 38. It has bracing across the top on each end but nothing in the middle. It this ok or does it need a cross brace across the middle? Its 6mm glass. Thanks
whetu
Can you post a pic of the tank with its current bracing? It would help to be able to see exactly where the existing bracing is and how it is secured, before being able to make an educated assessment. Barrie
the more bracing the better The sides are acceptable in 6mm (although I would make it thicker if I was making a new tank) but the base should be at least 8mm and ideally 10mm The more bracing you have the stronger the tank. Silicon is a sealant not a glue so more bracing = less strain on the sealants = stronger tank with less chance of problems
Morcs
ah thats euro bracing, quite common. depends how much bracing is at either end really. 38 deep isnt huge, and if properly braced on the top sides, it probably is strong enough. oneeyedfrog
Thanks for the replies . I thought its better to put more on . So found myself some old lovures (sp?) and thanks to the tips on here , cut the glass without cutting myself. Yay! Even managed to cut it kinda where I wanted too! I thought euro bracing was around all 4 sides of the tank? From the description given this person has 2 pieces one going front to back at each end of the tank? Sounds like you have it sorted I think it is always good to have something in the middle, if need be you might need to cut some small pieces to stick under it to give it more surface area to bond to especially with 6mm glass.
