Stella
I have been meaning to start a thread asking about the cheapest power companies, but just now I found a link to this site: http://www.powerswitch.co.nz Have your latest power bill ready and plug in a few fields, then it lists all the power companies in order of what you would save. I am with Meridian on a low user plan, which is the fourth cheapest on the list or 18 (which compares different plans of different companies, not just different companies) I would save $25 a year if I switch to Mercury low user. I would spend an extra $274 if I moved to Trust Power's 24 controlled plan!
jolliolli
On the stuff website today they rated mercury cheaper than meridian (i'm with meridian), but meridian uses cleaner sources to generate their power than mercury. What annoys me about the genesis/pukeko tv ads are that they try to makret genesis as a environmentally friendly power provider, however they are rated the worst on the clean energy guide site (heres the site for reference) http://www.cleanenergyguide.org.nz/ceg/info.asp
spoon
meridan's source's feed the national grid, so do the non renewable sources owned by other companies. so it really doesnt matter which power company your with, your getting a mixture of electricity from nonrenewable sources and renewable . its just a play on words to get customers. the only way around it is to generate your own electricity
