js
Hi there I found this interesting, as I have a Jebo 100w in my 54ltr tank (60x30x30) and I have problems keeping the temp down. I have mine set on 22 degrees, which keeps my tank around 25 to 26 degrees overnight and when we are at work, but at night when we are home with the heating going, my tank is sitting around 28 to 29 degrees. I put this down to the room heating up, and there isn't much my heater can do about that. The heater isn't turning on when the house heating is going. My fish all seem very happy and I can't notice it affecting them, but I do worry about the huge difference. But if I turn it down as far as it will go (20) then I am worried that it might drop that low one day, and then my fish will die from the cold. N1CK
The heating in your house shouldn' be doing that and if the room is heating up it should mean that the heater turns off so it doesn't heat the tank up anymore than it needs to, the 4 degree temperature changes is definitely not good for any fish snd probably doing more damage to them if the temp were to drop below 20 deg (which it shouldn't if you have heating) I think it would be a good idea to invest in a new heater

Cricketman
i just had my heater fail on me tonight, found it ironic that we were talking about heaters failing. mine failed to the "ON" switch, and as such my tank was reading well over 34 degrees on my trustworthy murcury thermometer. it is a tetra 150w, i dont understand how my fish are surviving! ive dumped a heap of ice in there, and trying to get a water change underway... phoenix44
dont!!!! just let the temp reduce on its own. too drastic a change is a bad thing

Cricketman
i put some ice in there at first, only small amounts at a time, most i held on the spray bar to melt in my hand, it dropped it to about 30, then i did a 25% water change, adding the water very slowly, they seem fine, only death was a neon and a rosy tetra that went over the edge of the overflow earlier, now i know why! must have been like that since this morning, cos i usually hand feed and i didnt notice the temp till tonight! wow... what a day! ive really had a bad one, this is just icing on the cake for me today! :-? at least i know im alive (and my fish)

Sounds like a typical jebo heater I also doubt your house heating is causing this (unless you are actually heating your house to 28-29C). I think the thermostats are so cheap they probably take longer to respond to a raise or fall in temperature so you will get those variations. Cricketman sorry to hear about your losses hope all the rest pull through, keep an eye out for whitespot
