evey71
Hi guys, My cordydora's have bet me to the punch and layed in their conditioning tank for the first time. I looked on the internet but found conflicting entries on how long the eggs take to hatch. I suppose I could wait and find out myself but this is the first egg laying fish I have tried so some sort of time frame would be great. Many thanks for your help. lmsmith
It's temperature dependant. They are sensitive to light. 72 hrs at 28 deg, 4-5 days at 24. The parents will eat the babies, so make sure there is no gravel on the bottom (the babies will fall down the gaps and die), put sand on the bottom, and some broken pots so the babies can hide under the gaps. Or you can scrape the eggs out, but keep a good water movement over them and add some meth blue. To make them hatch, you can shine a torch at them after 3.5 days and they'll hatch. I've had a better success rate hatching them earlier. They keep their egg sacks for 5 days, and can only eat decaps, microworm or bbs for a few days until they get bigger. Remove any left over food, and do a water change every time you walk past and they'll grow quickly.
AquaVitamins
Haha Me too! I woke up and looked at the tank and all over the glass were eggs. But they all got eaten now
evey71
Thank you all who answered my question...they have just hatched this morning so three days. I did cover the tank with a towel as I read that this helps...the eggs being in the dark. I managed to move off the unfertilized eggs and set up two air-stones and also a hangover to move the water over the rest........they were in clusters.....I did use the meth blue as well. Lots of wigglers today...I was excited as this is my fist egg layer I have tried. I just have to get them grown now....here's hoping. thanks again Evey
