Another tank idea thread

So I now have a spare tall hexagonal 80L tank. The surface area isn't the greatest. 45cm across opposite sides and 62cm tall. I run a fluval 204 on it with decent media (thinking of also adding some purigen as well). It's had plenty of fish in it in the past and I have left everything running after I took out the last of the fish that were in it so shouldn't need cycling (but I can test anyway).

I would really like to get into killies but not sure if any would be suitable for this kind of tank. Alternatively, maybe I could get some breeding of some sort going in it.

Any ideas? I'd like something different to the fish in my signature.

the problem with those tanks is that fish usually are more aware of bottom area than height, but you could try something like a school of rosy tetras, maybe some dwarf gouramis (not cobalts as in my experience they have been really agro) even pearl gouramis as they are very peaceful and dont really move around heaps, but are gorgeous fish too.

nice tall plants like acorus rush or valliselaria (sp?), maybe a really twisted peice of long driftwood with some java moss/fern comming off it

you wont want fast torpedo sort fish as they will dart around andvrun out of space quickly.

thats what id do! good luck and enjoy!

I'm sure killifish would love it

Exactly what I wanted to hear. However, I don't know what kind of killies are available in NZ. I'd love something with a bit of colour, or pairs I could breed from. Anyone here able to help me out with killies? Of course I am happy to pay for decent fish :)

I successfully keep a pair of gold gouramis (and their livebearer and GBA buddies) in a tank like that, being ananbantoids the surface area isn't so much of a problem. I think angels would probably do well in a tall tank like that but you couldn't keep many.
