American Tank

Have you got your java buried? Always thought if you buried the rhizome of the java fern then it will rot? I have mine attached to the driftwood for a natural look - so what is your final community composition? 'Cos it did sound like a weird combination before

Yes the Javas are buried. Will see how they go. In my tall tank ive got a small clump of java high up on some driftwood, looks great, but wouldnt suit this tank.

As for selection, i looooove convicts, so will want to keep one of my 3. Will keep my jewel. I want a firemouth and a T-bar - and that may be it. My Blue acara will probably get too big for the stocking level that im after.

Do Salvinis ever come up for sale in NZ?

I would get rid of the jewel - and keep the firemouth and T bar.

T bar may get bullied though.

Are jewels that bad? mines seems okay. Its a good 2inches and in my community tank with rams, angels and gouramis at the moment. No problems at all. Was only ever bothered by an aggressive convict that was smaller.

How big do blue acaras get? the internet says 6 or 8 inches, and ive never seen that size.

blue acaras get too big for that tank.

jewels aren't that bad. but its a relative term  . it won't stay 2" for long, and it could turn to custard. :(

Thats part of the fun with cichlids :D

As long as they dont get too stressed or hurt.

Looks like Boris the Blue Acara is going up on trademe :(

I would say your jewel will be fine - they tend to keep to themselves but will stick up for themselves too though

We just got some blue acaras in the weekend - gorgeous fishies, can't wait till they get bigger :D
