I see you have an underwater light in there :bounce: Oh good!, i think so too Um i have no idea what light i have.. 240Watt Something-a-rather .. The thing with the holes in it, it an old candle box. And i put the Uw light in side it. It looks really good, the light is dispersed throughout the tank nicely with it. Foxglove
I like the tank - the val looks great (that's the tall straight plant you've got at the centre back). IM(ns)HO The light looks a bit odd with the completely natural look. I guess you need to decide whether you want a natural look or contrived - both look good but usually not mixed. Yeah I know I recommended the candle shade but it was really a flippant comment.

I think they have made the fish alot happier! i still like the candle shade. It may not completely fit in, but o well. Forgive me but im not quite following what your saying here : " IM(ns)HO The light looks a bit odd with the completely natural look" Do you mean the Underwater light is not fitting with the style of the tank? Aquatopia
The scaping is great - Im not sure the pot looks right though (just bein honest and its only my opinion) - seems kinda out of place. A few more plants to fill out some of the gaps at the back will come in the future no doubt, but its a great improvement -

Dont worry about expressing yourself, i want the hard honest truth I can take it Yea i plan on filling it out more. For the back im planning on building a moss wall. Yeah I meant the candle pot with light in it. The light is great, but the pot doesn't work for me with the rest of the tank. again I say this is just my opinion  It is up to you - if you like it, great! :bounce: It does take time for an aquascape to settle and grow in. And keep trimming the stem plants so you can get more bushy plants. Hmm, I'm still waiting for my tank to settle - just shifted the harlequins back in. The corys will wait till tomorrow now. I still have to remove more gravel/aquatic mix that is clouding the tank.
AquaVitamins
love the underwater light, where do you get those? and how do you make a moss wall?? YOu do?!? I got it from Hutt Pets, it cost me around $27. The moss wall.. hmm theres a post about it somewhere under D.I.Y i think. But basicily its a mesh you stick to the back wall of your tank, you stuff the Java moss inside of it, and it starts to grow out and eventually it covers the mesh. It looks really cool! And its really cheap to make, i think the woman who posted about it, said it cost her $7 to make (excld the Java Moss)

I wonder how long it would take to accumulate a decent amount of cover. Ill also be keeping my eyes open for drift wood. And to top it off the Java Moss wall should look great! :bounce: Cant wait :bounce: How long does it take for you tank to settle? I reckon when i cloud up my tank, the dibree ( sorry about the spelling ) doesnt even get a chance to settle -with that overly powerful filter of mine
phoenix44
your plants will do well if you: 1.) have good nutrient in the soil for root feeders, 2.)have nutrient in the water for plants that use leaf absorbtion, and 3.) have the right spectrum of light for growing plants (in the right wattage). now you have to find out the Kelvin rating of your light. it should be on the tube, its the number and then a K symbol. eg. mine are 18000K, others can be 6500K, 10000K etc etc. :bounce: _____ those underwater lights are awesome, im currently trying to see if I can find anyone to drill a hole in a nice vodka bottle - at the base, so i can make it a lamp! lol
Foxglove
Yeah my other tanks settle quickly. Never add Dalton's Aquatic mix unless you plan on never changing the tank, ever! The very fine sand in the mix clouds the tank and then settles everywhere, which is really annoying. Takes about two hours to settle, but then you have to siphon the dust off. If I had the whole day tomorrow I'd change the gravel over completely, but I only have a couple of hours spare so i'll chuck other sand over the top. I also have plenty more plants now spare - I didn't use half what I had, so if you want more, they're here. I've got some crypts, more java fern and moss, val, ambulia and ...others  if you're patient ( hah!? ) you could come out to the next Upper Hutt club night ( bring Jared too!) and get the plants then... I'll also have a selection of soaked driftwood.

Ill check the Kelvin Rating 2mo cas i need a screwdriver to get into it, and thats in the garage... YEa the Under water lights a great, they look soo good when the main light it off, i found it brings out different colors in the fish, which i didn't see when the main light was on That vodka light would look really cool, I can imagine that, are you going to dye the water inside? that could look cool. fishbreeder
how would you dye the water inside the bottle without it getting into the rest of the tank? forgive me if its easy to do. ive got a couple of different tanks in mind. one is a mountainous one made with expanding foam and polystrene. and one that has a bubble water fall with the lighting aimed to create coloured bubbles. ill have to look on DIY for that moss thread. how do i make a real waterfall? with water? phoenix44
you have to use ferts to get nutrient. Re: the vodka bottle thing. - It does not go in the tank! it becomes a lamp. Although you just gave me a very good marketing idea.

Oh jokes i thought you were making like a lamp, lamp. One to sit on a table   I guess you could just fill it, dye the water and silicone the top closed. erh, A underwater waterfall? I have seen on another thread, a guy who had built one ( above water waterfall) He basicly Built a semi divider and created two pools inside the tank. The overflow made the waterfall, and he used expanding foam to create the natural look.
