petermc
Is it normal when introducing new fish into a community tank to get abit of chasing? Recently when introducing a very young gold severum my elephant nose took a disliking to him and chased him off and on the first night and then it was all over and today i have introduced some young angel fish and this time the gold severum is doing a wee bit of chasing despite bein a smaller fish. Is this normal behavior? Thanks Pete
Ira
Yeah, it's normal. Most fish are mildly territorial or just curious. Fish aren't that smart, if they really want to get a closer look at something and it moves away, they keep swimming towards it until they reach it or forget what they were doing...This could be described as chasing. Aquatopia
Its always best to introduce new fish with the lights out too - the new ones are less stressed and the existing ones are often a bit more placid.

Lynnie
I always introduce mine when feeding. Feed rest down one end and introduce fish at other. Other fish are so buzy eating they just keep going. With full tummy dont chase the new fish.
