Olly
Can we get filter socks for mechanical filtration in NZ? The national aquarium uses them (I should know it was my job as a volunteer to clean them all) but they probably import them I'm planning on building a sump similar to the one in this thread, just smaller. I'm wondering if I can get hold of a filter sock or two to use as mechanical filtration, so I can have the max volume of biological filtration in the limited area under my stand http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=190168&highlight=herbie+overflow
suphew
Most spa pool shops sell them
Olly
Cool Would they work inline? I want to put it on the way down to the sump, behind the tank. This would allow easy access to the sock which would need cleaning fairly regularly, and give me more room underneath the stand for the biological media which hardly ever needs cleaning, just checking Any other ideas what would work as an inline mechanical filter? suphew
Sounds like you are taking about two different things, a filter sock and an inline filter. Bunnings sells inline filters and I assume spa/pool shops would too. Have only seen filter socks at Spa shops.
Simian
Look into milk filter socks. ask a dairy farmer mate, they are used inline.
