Brianemone
but you pay for what you get hence the ghetto wooden light holder (granted its temperary) and the hair algae (a better filtration system would eliminate that) you can have a ghetto tank to if you really try  but its still early days and all his (My) corals/fish are doing really well one day he might even get some of his own stock
livebearer_breeder
how much would it cost for me to setup a 2 foot marine tank new?
Brianemone
1000 give or take (with out fuge) depends on what you want to do my two foot cost me 100$ (heres whats in it, fluval 304,18wpc 50/50 actinic, 8w white light, small power head and about 10kg of rock with various corals that are doing really well even under that lighting, soon to be upgraded to 88wats in total) i had everything except the pc light (oh and 40$ for my homemade led moon light) to increase the stability you can add a fuge (hence increasing the literage) if starting from scratch for myself in my own home id do a bow front with in a cabinet type setup with a fuge the size of tank with skimmer in it and heater and a dsb with some form of macro algae 250W mh and aquascape the heck out of it keep any coral you want have the looke of a really nice nano reef but not the size
chimera
be willing to spend heaps of time maintaining it then! at least you'll learn from your mistakes and spend more on good equipment
jetskisteve
agreed, I'd start another if it was all free stuff :-?
Brianemone
im a person of reasonable extremes either small or big no point going inbetween thats why the nano setp suits meat the mo when i've got a house and dont have to move for a while ill setup a bigger tank again, i think ill go for a different style though not the classic tank maybe a inwall or bowfront maybe a big cube in the middle of the room like a pillar
