African Riverine Cichlids

Other than Kribensis and Jewel cichlids, what other river dwelling african cichlids are available in NZ?

Have a (currently cycling) 1.2m / 250ltr tank and am looking at getting a Senegal bichir and would like to find a medium - medium/large cichlid to live with him.

Not sure if we get any others, but a leopard ctenopoma would be an ideal addition to an african riverine tank, as would a school of congo tetras. Buffalo heads are another possibility, but I'm not sure how fast they grow, so you may want to get them at a large enough size so they don't get eaten as the senegal grows. I'd recommend getting a few senegals for a tank that size, 3+ would be good.

And if you haven't already seen it, Annes Polypterus Primer should answer almost every question you have: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... hp?t=65770

How much are the Buffalo heads? I have yet to see them up here in either of our lfs. Ive read that purchasing them young is a good idea due to the way they pair up.

i have about 10 at the mo & will be selling some in the next month or two as they get bigger. the paired two i have appear to be quite aggressive to the other lump heads that aren't in the pair if that makes sense.

(edit: seems i was logged in as my son, sorry. Smidey)
