teddiebear1
Hi guys, I have 3 yellow dwarf gouramis and now I have what appears to be a few hundred babies in the floating plants at the top of my community tank being viciously defended by what I'm guessing is Dad. My tank is a Jewel Vision 450L and is home to our large Albino Pleco (the tank was bought for him when he outgrew the Vision 180! LOL - also in there are some neons, black phantom tetras, a blue dwarf gourami and a few koi swordtails, glowlights, and a few other small fish. Anyway, I'm wondering what if anything I should do - I think everyone is starting to get wind that there are babies up there and Dad is stoic but small. The babies are so tiny and I have no idea how to raise them if I did try. So far, my experience in raising babies is limited to guppies, gba's and peppered corys. Is it common or unusual for gouramis to breed in a community tank? Any comments, advice or info gratefully received.
ryanjury
Awesome great news If you want the babies to survive you need to siphon them out into a smaller tank with a sponge filter they will get eaten in your community tank. They will need green water or other microscopic food when they are free swimming to begin with moving onto BBS or decap or finely crushed flake. Adrienne
this reply may be too late but when this happens with my fighters I use an icecream container and very gently scoop them and the adult male into it. Then I leave them in the container floating in another tank until they are free swimming and able to be released back into a tank own their own.
