wagonman
just looked at my tank and it is down to 16 degrees, took heater out and it was warm, put another hearter in that looked brand new, set to 28 degrees but it turns on for a while then off, shouldn't it be on until it reaches temp??? thanks
dantedobe
Feel your water, maybe it's your temp gauge, not the heater

dantedobe
Damn, i've had a stick on temp gauge stop working before. Your heater should not stop if it is not up to temp. Have you got another one you could try? How are your fish?

dantedobe
Do you have another tank with a working heater in that you could take out and try in this tank? What sort of fish are in there? I left my heater off by mistake in winter and the tank got down to 18 and the fish were not looking too good. Just sat still on the bottom of the tank. smidey
is the heater on an angle or straight up & down? Up & down may cause the thermostat to switch it off as the water around the heater will be warm but rest of tank cold if there is not enough flow.
