Romeo
Gidday folks, Me and the missus are considering buying an AR620 - to stock with delicious tropical fish! She's pretty set on getting some dwarf honey gouramis, silver sharks and a few other bits and pieces. I'm leaning towards a nice big (10cm-15cm ish) catfish. Not sure what type, but I'm not really too keen on the sucker mouthed ones. I've seen a couple of really awesome ones today. There's one at Bubble and Squeak, it's a prehistoric looking catfish with huge scales and the other one's a Silver Mystus Catfish at Animates Tower Junction. I'm just wondering if anyone's got in input on the two I've seen. Or if they can add anything on keeping these? Alternatively, you could suggest something I might like and I'll do a bit more Internet research on it. I like a good sized fish, that's quite natural looking and has a bit of character - as long as it doesn't grow too big! I love knife fish, but they grow too big unfortunately ;[ Thanks, Any input greatly appreciated! Romeo
spoon
silver sharks will eventually get 2 big as well bristlenose plecos are a good choice for a sucker fish look almost like a big pleco that will get to 40cm but they only gt around 12 or 13 cm . take into account stocking levels and plan for the future . 1 cm of fish per a litre is the ratio i think(some1 correct me if im wrong) and i think a ar620 is 160 l (again correct me if im wrong) so that mean 160 cm of fish but does not mean 4 x 40cm plecos either! big fish need big tanks and some small fish will get big fast Take silver dollars for example so weork this out on the maximum size the fish will get ,not at what it is when u buy it. the other thing is to avoid aggressive species of fish unless the tank mates are able to handle them. so pays to do ur research . having guppies and neons and other small fish (or having angels bigger gouramis etc) can limit the variety of tank mates somewhat as the small fish arent going to last . find some fish u like the look of on the net or in an lfs and find out if they are compatible in terms of water chemistry(no use putting a discus with africans etc) , behaviuor and size of the tank if u get stuck on certain type ask on the forum by the way great to see ur native tank doin well and that u have contracted MTS
lmsmith
I've got an AR620 - good tank. I think it's a bit small for your bigger catfish. You could look at a pictus catfish - they're beautiful. http://www.fishlinkworldwide.com/fish/products_pictures/pictus_catfish.jpg I saw Mystic's today, and it's stunning. They really need to be kept in groups with bigger fish because they eat anything that fits in their mouths. Bristlenoses are always good fish too. I've also got 2 Chocolate Zebra plecos, which are stunning fish - talk to mrpleco if you're interested in plecos. Mystus catfish are pretty cool, I believe they get pretty big though. You could always get a bigger tank
firenzenz
pictus are bettr in groups so I'd say no to them. Many plecs/catfish will eventual outgrow your tank, so bear that in mind. How about getting some GBA's or similar and get a breeding pair/trio going down the line. The L270 chocolate zebs are lovely as well and get to a similar size.
