Midas
Has anyone ever heard of or come across this fish (vieja argentea)? It was in the latest issue of practical aquarium and my wife likes the look of it and wants one.
Caryl
TFH July '96 mentions them too. They used to be Cichlasoma argentea. Can't say I have ever heard of them in NZ though.
Pegasus
Hi Midas, As Caryl says, it has been changed to Cichlasoma argentea, but there's some great pics here, (male and female with eggs) under the old name. http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html Bill. Midas
.... it has been changed to Cichlasoma argentea, ... Isn't Cichlasoma the older genus. It has been changed to Vieja, not the other way round as far as I can tell. Most central americans that were once in Cichlasoma seem to have been renamed with new genus names. Pegasus
You are be right Midas, I must admit I'm not up to scratch with the name changes, I misread Caryl's post and thought the data at tangledupincichlids was a little behind, as many sites are. My only excuse is being up all night Quite right Benny, http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html has some nice pics. Never got a chance to go through them.... Must go back seeing it's up to date. :)
Rob
According to http://www.fishbase.org the currently valid genus is Vieja. As for can we get it in NZ? Apparently not as it's not listed under either name on the allowable fish list http://www.maf.govt.nz/biosecurity/imports/animals/standards/fisornic.all.htm

CID in OZ
Hi All Unfortunately we are restricted in our import list also her in Oz but I like what your list will allow in cichlids and catfish But I think we have a more active black market in non allowable species that somehow just show up Chris D 8)
