Rozski
Oh wow thats awesome!! Glad to hear you got some cool fish, would love to see the triple reds. Definitely post some pics please! And don't worry about thread stealing lol Mine keep shifting their wrigglers around, hopefully not leaving too many behind each time, otherwise they will have none left
Guest
How long had you had them before yours bred? The male triple red has a big chunk missing from his tail. I'll try to get pics but they have to settle in first as they're hiding (so are the dwarf flags).
Guest
Can you post a pic of your're female dwarf flag?
Rozski
Ummm, probably had them a couple of months. The females were little when I got them though, and I think I triggered spawning by adding salt to the tank the other day. Will get photos of the girls for you later. I checked their dorsal fins yesterday too, and the girls are definitely more short and stubby compared to the male.
Guest
Sweet. My "female" has an extension on her fin but it isn't pointed like the males. It's rounded. Also in the shop tank the male I got was the biggest most dominent and had a little ornament that he was gaurding and the "female" I got was the only one allowed around his orniment. The 2 dwarf flags are hanging out together as well, like they swim together and when one stops the other does as well. The cockatoos are hiding though as the gold rams is giving them a little chase when he sees them.
Dave+Amy
what kind of community would these suit? are these south american fish? I'd be keen to add a few to my tank if they were..hope all goes well!
Guest
The dwarf flags? From what I've read they're really peaceful and so far in my tank they're peaceful but the cockatoos are a bit aggro. I can't wait till the all come out. So far only the dwarf flags are coming out a bit.
Dave+Amy
where did you get your dwarf flags from Cam? the LPS?
Guest
Hutt pets, they're $18ea. They only have 1 or 2 females left and about 8-10 males. The cockatoos were from hutt pets and they were $20ea. Is that a good price?
Dave+Amy
..could be cheaper ONLY when you buy in bulk from there lol got about $20 off when I bought 10 chain loaches, I'm sure if you buy straight from the breeder you knock out the middle man = saving more! PLUS I do think individual breeders keep their tanks cleaner
Guest
Yeah but I have no patience so I just got them today and get them use to the tank so I can fatten them up ready for breeding 8)
Dave+Amy
haha if it all goes well I'll be swinging past your house again to buy a few off you lol - I have NO patience for breeding, I lack the patience gene lol
Guest
LOL. I have a bit of patience when it comes to breeding fish but not enough. So far the things on my list to breed are: Panda Corys, Dwarf Flag Cichlids Triple Red Cockatoos Bristle Noses Fighters (I want to get some interesting colours from them) Looks like I'm going to need more tanks  8)
supasi
.., I'm sure if you buy straight from the breeder you knock out the middle man = saving more! PLUS I do think individual breeders keep their tanks cleaner Remember, you need the middle man. What happens when everyone stops buying from the shops...They shut the door. So where do you go when you need the emergency heater or filter etc. Not against buying direct, but remember we need the shops, so support them when you can. That said, Im gonna look for some dwarf flags when i next go to shop  they are neat fish

Rozski
Just went to look, but I think they've given up. They still were guarding fry on Saturday, and the fry were trying to free swim, it was cute. The parents had shifted them yet again yesterday, and I couldn't see if there were any, but today neither of them are guarding anywhere, so appears no fry left. They were shifting them every 12 hours or so, and probably would leave some behind every time? Ah well, will see if they try again According to your thread in Freshwater, they like to breed lol
Guest
Yeah, I really want mine to breed. How long had you had them before they bred? My pair hang out together alot so maybe they've formed a pair?

And they are eating everything(Flakes, bloodworms and pellets)
