Lucas
I'm getting a bit tired of having green/cloudy water. I've tried removing possible causes for this, but I'm not keen to either salt sterilise the tank, black it out for days on end or use clearing agents. Would the Green killing machine or another relatively cheap UV steriliser do the trick? Is there any other way to filter the water more effectively? 100 liters, eheim 2213 filter, understocked. suphew
A UV filter should get rid of the green water, but it only treats the symptom, you need to address the cause, algae needs light and nutrients.
jim r
Speaking from past experience I would not buy a GKM because I found the sponge filter clogged up very quickly and it looked unsightly in the tank. IMO Pondmaster is very good.
Lucas
I live on a farm and use bore water... I suspect there might be agrichemicals that have leached into the ground. If I use a UV filter and just address the symptom, will that matter? or are the extra chemicals in the water going to be a health issue to the fish? suphew
It's possible there will but other chemicals in the water, you could try and get the council to test the water for you. Which might pay anyway just in case it's bad for the fish AND for you. But the main problem is that by just treating the symptom something else will pop up. So you might stop the green water but then get bad green hair algae. Most likely if its ag chemicals, it will be phosphate in the water, there are lots of resins that remove phosphate and they will be cheaper than a UV filter.
