trick
Hey all I thought it was about time I registered for these forums instead of just reading them. I've kept tropical fish for many years but am currently keeping it simple with a tank of swordtails and catfish. The swordtails are a mix of colour variations. May consider putting in another type of fish if they're really compatible. Tank is around 3 foot long and taller than most (200-220L probably depending on how high I fill it). There's 2 heaters and an Eheim Ecco 2235 filter. Just replaced the Fluval 404, which isn't running reliably. At the moment I'm after 2 Siamese Algae Eaters for my black beard algae problem, and looking to also sell my Fluval 404 as is. Also interested in getting some plants that don't need much light (the height of the tank is a bit of a problem here). Cheers, Matt

Dixon1990
But goldens are chinese not siamese, and when they are older they will terrorize everyone if not in a LARGE tank.
mitzy
But goldens are chinese not siamese, and when they are older they will terrorize everyone if not in a LARGE tank. They were tiny ones at hutt pets. I got 2 as my last 2 got quite big and they just played with each other didnt bother the other fish. I guess it just depends on ya fish. Foxglove
Hi and Welcome! I do recommend the Siamese algae eaters - got rid of my black beard algae and have kept several tanks very clean. Hutt Pets do have several types of algae eater, including SAEs. You do have to know which ones are which though, as they have flying foxes and saes in the same tank. Whereabouts in Welly are you? There are three clubs in Welly: Wellington, Upper Hutt and KapiMana. The KapiMana club is meeting this Wednesday night, with an auction. Great fun and lots of bargains to be had. Meeting details can be found in the club section. I will be bringing some Java fern to the auction.
Lucid
Heya and welcome, Good to see the hobbie growing at a healthy rate in Wellington, if you ever need any help with anything, don't hesitate to ask, or if you just want to pop round and stare at some tanks over a cup of coffee just ask. I agree to with the chinese algae eaters they can be terrors, but as with all fish, needs to be taken on a case by case, as not all fish are the same, but generally speaking they can get nasty ( JMO) Ballistic, Mystic, Tyler and Byron
trick
Hey thanks for the info. Will have look for some genuine SAE's, have decided to avoid all the other types. Called Hutt Pets and they said they didn't have them but if you're right Foxglove theres probably some SAE's amongst the Flying Foxes. Have read up on the differences to look for. Thanks for the info on the clubs. I'm in Newlands so could probably attend either Wgtn or KapiMana since its in Tawa. Cheers for the offer Ballistic.
