FreedingFrenzy
She looks quite thin and I've noticed recently she's had a bit of a problem swimming properly and right now she's sitting on the bottom of the tank just gulping a lot... I'm pretty sure shes about to die but is there anything I can do to keep her alive?
Caryl
Probably not at this stage. Thinness can be a sign of internal parasites or worms or stress from birth. Try to separate her and see if you can feed her up. Not sure what to suggest if you want to try and medicate her. I assume all the other fish are fine? FreedingFrenzy
Yeah, all the fish other than her are fine. She has been looking off colour for a while though...
SpidersWeb
If you can take her out of the tank that would be advised. Otherwise you risk the other fish as well. There are vet prescribed medications that may help, but I doubt you'd want to go to that trouble and expense for a single swordtail.
Naz_Nomad
I had the same problem with my fist female swordtail. second lot of babies, when she'd finished delivering, she just laid down and wasn't interested any more. Died after a couple of days. It's very sad, but I think that it is something that happens with swordtails.
SpidersWeb
Its even worse with Platys. Basically their body is so exhausted (yours would be too if you just gave birth to 20 or so babies!!) so their immune systems are low and so is there energy, add to this the interest from males they become very stressed and easily become ill in this time. FreedingFrenzy
There are no males in the tank and she's never had babies.. (to my knowledge) there's another female swordtail who looks a hell of a lot healthier than she does.. And I'm pretty sure none of my other fish have hassled her... I have a three spot gourami, neon tetras, glowlite tetras, danios, bottom feeders etc
