Dixon1990
MOst African cichlids are best kept in 1male 3-5female groups and demasoni on do good in groups of 10+
DantezGirl
thanks for that D any suggestions as to tank size if i have all the species and numbers to make them happy or is it better to split them into more tanks or lessen the species amount
Dixon1990
You could probably have 5-6 Labidochromis caeruleus 10-15 Pseudotropheus demasoni 5 Aulonocara hansbaenschi in a 3foot tank with a biggish footprint.
DantezGirl
I have chosen the species i really like and species i would mind to have but can live without them if its better to lessen the species in the tank PS: they will be 4ft tanks tank one Cryptoheros nigrofasciatus-stays Archocentrus spinosissimus-negotiable Thorichthys helleri-negotiable Thorichthys meeki-stays tank two Labidochromis caeruleus-stays Pseudotropheus demasoni-stays Aulonocara hansbaenschi-stays Aulonocara baenschi-stays

ryanjury
I don't know if you saw this.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/my-fir ... 27286.html But it is exactly what your suggesting with your african alternative.. Only difference is that the tank in the link has baenshi not red shoulders in it each to their own they're both nice fish though.. And yes get at least 12 dem's more if you can afford it. DantezGirl
dam that is one gorgeous looking tank thanks for that R.J any idea on what is readily avaliable and price ranges can't seem to find any on TM
ryanjury
I bred the dem's for that tank and sold them to him for $5ea. Yellows are around the same price when small. Peacocks can be around $8ea from a breeder when small more when bigger and sexable there are lots of different types commonly avaliable and upto $50ea in shops. You could probably stock your tank for $150-200 top's.

firenzenz
Cryptoheros has, far as I'm aware, superseeded archocentrus as scientific name. Cryptoheros nigrofasciatus is just your normal Convict. Price?-I'm sure someone will give some money to take some away. Unfortunately we don't seem to get much else in that genus. the Nanoluteus or Honduran red points would be in a tank of mine if they were around. "Meeki'- is the firemouth and widely available for about $20.00 Compatibility- The bigger the tank and the more caves/hidey holes the less aggression, although like any cichlid their parental instincts will provide territorial dramas at spawning time. DantezGirl
cool thanks for that do they prefer swim through caves hides or normal one door caves? and would it be better because there only 4ft tanks to lessen the stock per tank to minimize fights ect? my main one's i want are the electric yellows as there here in taupo and the convicts as they have real personality so im told
