Huallga, Huallga

It is really the Apistogramma baenschi. It is from the Middle Rio Huallaga.

The pic looks like you are getting the real thing. It is a fish that is considered in danger by many. It is not a fish with a wide distribution in terms of native habitat. It is losing habitat as a result of logging. And it is being potentially over fished by exporters for the hobby trade. It is not on any endangered list.

It goes between 2-3" SL in captive environments. 2" SL wild. It is a cave spawner. Sand and planted--some good root exposure would be welcome by this species.

It is also sold as the Inka.

It is endemic to Peruvian blackwater streams and rivers.

I got this reply from one of the cichlid guru's on another forum.

What more can I say, those 2 say it all.

Thank you so much.I had looked at the cichlid forum but I could not find a link hualaga to baenshi.

Now, the bad news, It seems to look nothing like the fish we have. The3 2 we have look more like steindachneri, but even then it is a bit of a jump. Perhaps I shall have to figure out how to upload a picture. :bounce:
