jn
Hey folks, One of my suckers has been acting a little oddly the last couple of days. It's deeper than usual in the pit that he(?) has dug for himself under a large flat rock. I did a big water change yesterday and normally afterwards both of the suckers chase around the galss and rocks etc etc...but this one didn't come out at all. I 'teased' it out with a little plastic stick this morning (just gently). At first when I put the stick near it, he tried to 'scare' it off like he was defending his ground...he eventually came out (I wanted to get a good look at him to see if he looked well.. I wasn't being cruel).. but only for a few seconds and went straight back underneath. His colour was all good and everything seemed normal.. they do go pale when they get stressed I think. Could they be breeding? I have 2 but I would only be guessing if I tried to sex them. I would say that if I WAS to guess.. I'd think the hiding one would be male.. he has more colour in his dorsal fin and he's generally more of a showoff/poser than the other !! I know some types of fish dig pits and then guard their eggs but I can't find any actual references to breeding borneo suckers. What else could be going on? Simian
yep they definitely go pale when stressed. I have never had mine breed but I have read reports about them digging pits to breed in Good luck
purplecatfish
Yes, could be trying to breed. Have a look at "Loaches On Line" and look for breeding behaviour articles.
