jayci
How long does it take for the eggs to hatch? I have a female guarding a clutch of eggs, in a community tank. This is a first time mom, and she is doing a good job of it so far. Not sure how she will get on when the babies are free swimming.

ryanjury
I thought it took around 3 days to hatch another week or so till free swimming? Of course it is all dependant on temp etc if they're dark with dots they're fertile so just be patient, if you want any to survive you can remove them and stick an airstone on them and hatch them yourself.. jayci
Okay, The eggs are on an ornament, maybe I'll put it in a small tank at the end of the day and hopefully the eggs will start hatching over night or next day. Should I put a drop per litre of meth blue in? Should move the female with the eggs?

jayci
Had bit of a blow. Had a ammonia spike and killed them off. The female is now ready to do another batch, just waiting for the male to get interested.
jayci
My pair laid another batch yesterday. So thats about 6weeks between batchs. I have removed the male and left the female to fan the eggs. Once the fry are free swimming I'll remove the female too. This time I got a working bio-filter.
