js
Hello, A couple of nights ago, we have noticed that one of my goldfish (a comet) has lost one of it's eyes. It is completely gone. I'm not sure when this happened, as I look at them all every night when feeding them, and hadn't noticed anything funny until then. He is still swimming away happily with his friends, fin up, and eating just the same. Will he be in pain? Do eyes grow back? Would anyone know how he could have lost it? Thanks Julie
Caryl
He may be in pain but obviously is being staunch about it since he is swimming and eating normally. They do not grow back but he will manage very well without it. I have actually seen fish that have lost both eyes cope well. Could have had a fight. jn
I have a few big old one-eyed comets. They're just fine, just not runway model quality I have a blind one as well so I make sure I put food in a large clump so he can get a decent mouthful when he smells it and comes up. Flakes work better for him than stuff that floats away easily that he'd have to hunt for.. also some flakes will sink and he can then go poke around the bottom to find more later. Also once he does come up and start eating I'll drop more right by where he's feeding to make sure he's getting enough.
