chaat Posted January 17, 2008 Report Share Posted January 17, 2008 I have two empty tanks sitting in my garage. They both measure 600x500x500 and the calculator suggests a 150L capacity. I'm really wanting to try my hand at keeping cichlids, but I'm not too sure if these tanks are big enough. Demasoni are my first choice for one and I was looking at lumpheads for the other. I've done a lot of googling on both these species, but.. the advice and opinions vary so much that I really am no better off knowledge wise now than before I looked. ryanjury Posted January 17, 2008 Report Share Posted January 17, 2008 You might get away with demasoni and lionheads in those tanks lionheads don't get overly big and aggressive neither do demasoni, well demasoni get aggressive so you have to buy min of 12 of them.. Demasoni would be a bit iffy in there as you dont have a very big foot print for your tank. If it was a 150L 3ft tank then it would be sweet but as they like to have terriotories then it probably wouldn't be too good. My colony live in a 540L 5ft and my dominant male owns the whole tank. I would suggest you use one of those tanks to grow them out in and buy a bigger one later, with a bigger tank you have more options for companions for them too. Your tanks aren't big enough for most other africans you could do some jullies and thin them out as they pair and have 1-2 pairs in there, or maybe some yellow's because they stay relatively small and peaceful. I'm sure you know how that is Three foot tanks seem to be as cheap as dirt so I will keep a look out on TM for a couple more. Does anyone know of anywhere in Auckland that would have a decent numer of demasoni ? The stores I have been to lately seem to have only three or four, and I'm hoping to get around 15 . I could probably visit 4-5 stores to get enough, but I'm kinda lazy and hate driving around Auckland. There's a guy in Blockhouse Bay who has the lionheads .. so they will be easy enough to source, and I don't want so many of them. It's just the Dem's that seem to be tricky.
