Dog-eating Tetra
i just got a rock from my grandmothers garden and i would like some advice on how to clean it to put into my aquarium if possible. the rock will fit in a bucket but im not sure how best to clean it as i didn't think soap was a good idea as the chemicals in the sopa may compromise the fish's health. VinsonMassif
I got a lot of my rocks and stones from my garden. Gave them a good scrub with a nylon scourer and put them in my tank with no ill effects.
Caper
Yes, a good scrub should do. It was good that you didn't use soap you, as you are right, soap must never be used in aquarium or on aquarium items. Caper
Ianab
Yup, just water and a scrubbing brush. No detergent or soap. If you have access to a waterblaster that works well too. Cheers Ian

jimbob
ha, the first lot i got from the garden i scrubbed then boiled the second lot i scrubbed the third lot i rinsed, and my dad just picked them out of the garden, placed them in the tank. (no ferts/pest killers or anything else used in the garden in at least 2 yrs) no ill effects any time, but a good scrubbing should be fine
Jalil30
Of course I pick my rocks like diamonds. Color, Clarity and Cut. However I've noticed some rocks that are textured sometimes have "things" in the grooves, and warrant a little extra attention when scrubbing. I always feel better boiling those. However I cant say the fish mind either way.
