I need some advice..../help.....

My PH is 7.2 from the tap....

but my PH in tank is 8.

What would make the ph go higher....

Have 2 bits of diftwood, live plants, and air stone .. in tank....

My stones are black and gold ones...

Also:

Nitrite is .0ppm

Ammonia .25ppm

this has been like this for the last 2 weeks........

have been doing water changes every couple of days becuase I DON'T want any fish to die from ammonia getting to high...

Advice.... Please would the high PH make ammonia go up .... or is tank recycling due to me changing all the water to get rid of bug I had in tank....

What do you think??

the rocks or stones in your tank would raise the ph

i.e limestone

are your filters brand new or second hand?

The stone .... really.... mmmmmmmmmmm

OOPS ... I forgot to say the ammonia and ph were lower before my bug problem.... :-?

SORRY....

all filters (have 2...)are new....everything is other than the heater...

 New when I brought tank... that was months ago...

Thanks...

Yeah it has to be rocks tanks with drift wood etc tend to drop in PH rather than raise..

After all I'm still very new about it all....

ok any ideas on safely lowering the ph......

What sort of bugs are you talking about, the little ones on the surface?. If so a lot of people have those little bugs on the surface and they are harmless. I have got them in both of my tanks and they are fine, sometimes the fish will eat them if they can catch them.

Rather than mucking around with it I would find whats causing it to raise and remove it..

Have you got any white rocks in your tank? Or any shells or anything like that?

If you have to muck around with it you can try some peat in your filter but remember not to change things too fast and try and keep in constant otherwise you will stress your fish.

have you used anything to treat the bugs? if so what did you use

mmmmm now I didn't think of that

Yes formalin..... only used it the once... :-? fish didn't look like they liked it much did a 50% water change the next day ... and another one a day later.....

Bug looks like its gone though :bounce: still have my "fins" crossed though...

You can get UV filters that kill parasites and pathogens, they also keep the water crystal clear if you have bacterial or algae problems
