michael.qian
Bought a peacock eel from Jansans Henderson Store today on the way back from work. Ideally I would buy it after my neon tetras and swordtails are sold but today is the most convenient time. Anyway it settled in very quickly, the guy in the shop told me it was very friendly and doesnt hide much would turned out to be true. I notice it sometimes nudges other fish with its sharp nose, especially an albino cory, but other fish as well, what's it doing? Just being playful? The other fish don't try to move or swim away so I assume it doesn't hurt. Any ideas? Cheers
coelacanth
the nose is actually soft and flexible not sharp, so it wouldn't be able to hurt the other fish by poking them. Its probably just curious of its new tankmates
michael.qian
should I try and get another one? I've read they like being in groups. Also in the shop where they have small sized gravel it would sometimes bury itself, but I have the common average sized gravel so doubted it would be able to do that, would like make him less happy? Plenty of caves though.
coelacanth
might be better as a trio or more?? Two might be a bit more squabbly. I haven't kept more than one at a time so I don't really know.
coelacanth
they'll bury themselves in any size gravel. They like hiding in holes and such better though.
michael.qian
so they are pretty strong? I can't imagine it'll have the strength to insert itself in gravel this size. My gravel is not huge just the average sized ones we see most of the time.
henward
maybe it wants to give them a kiss or a hongi........ ok well, my one does that too, im not sure, when competing for food, it does it, when there is no food, it does it also but other fish doesnt seem to car, it nudges them, and they ignore it, and the eel goes away and eats and minds its own business. when the jar nudges, everyone takes notice
