Adrienne
Asked this in freshwater and then realised it should have been posted here. Picked up my 450 litre tank today. Need to do some work so there will be a few questions appearing with pics under technical for a while I think. Thinking of 5? biggish discus 10cm+, 4-6 kribs, 4 blue rams and some sort of catfish or cory. Not in a hurry to set this up , may spend months getting it right. Does this sound about right? Your thoughts
ryanjury
Yep sounds good Unsure how well the kribs and rams will get along but im sure they will be fine in that sized tank.. Also regarding the rams it is very likely they will all die on you unless you find some quality home bred ones around the place.. You could also try some schooling fish like cardinals or rummy noses
Adrienne
I've got a pair of mature adult kribs already (and some of their many many young) in a tank with a pair of young rams that I purchased last weekend. So far so good but I do know they can be hard to raise. The breeder I purchased them off has heaps and they are beautiful, The mother krib is really stroppy when she lays so I'll see how it goes. I may have to take her out and let the eggs be eaten.
ryanjury
Thats right there is someone selling nice blue rams in auckland on trademe Awesome! I was hoping they would ship. Im sure you will do well with them
Adrienne
I was told that the way to keep the rams alive was to do at least a 30% water change weekly as they like clean water - like discus.
ryanjury
lol that goes for any fish I had mine in with discus with daily water changes the best food everything and they still died I put it down to poor quality fish as everything else was top notch.. jolliolli
yeah i agree re: the rams, beautiful fish but the imports are full of internal parasites and slowly waste away, because of that i haven't replaced my pair as i don't want to risk infecting my discus
cichlid7
someone on TM is selling rams that they bred but wont send them
ryanjury
lol I tried the internal parasite thing and dosed them up on metro and prazi still lost them someone mentioned hormones on here recently, who knows I to have given up on the imported ones.. Its a shame that person in Ak wont ship them as soon as I read the auction I was about to ask if they shipped but they had it plastered all over their auction that they wouldn't
