Guest
Hi guys, I'm thinking about redoing my tank and would like there to be a ground cover plant I am just wanting to know the best ground cover plant is. I would like it to grow fast, stay a nice green colour and not get any hight than 10cm.
wilson
depends on what fish some will be dug up quicker than others
Guest
It's going to have Clown loachs, Khulie loachs, Neons, Black widows, Corys, BNs and ottos. It's going to have sort of two levels though at the back it will be banked up with rocks and will be higher and the bottom level is going to have some sort of ground cover and a few other plants. Dixon1990
dwarf sag
Zev
Dwarf Sag can grow quite tall, some of mine is about 150mm high. What tank depth/lighting/Co2/ferts you talking about for your tank?
Guest
It's 40cm deep and it has no CO2 but I use flourish once a week. I don't think I want dwarf sag if it gets 15cm high
Zev
Lighting?
Guest
It's a aqua glow 15w and it gets about 13 hours of light
Guest
And the temp is usually 26-27 degress
Zev
I was asking because the really short plants such as Glosso require quite high light otherwise they get long and lanky. Other options are Hairgrass - http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/foru ... php?id=154 Lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae - http://www.fnzas.org.nz/plant_survey/aq ... 94d498e67e

Guest
can you trim dwarf sag and does it cover the ground then grow up or does it grow up then cover the ground
Zev
If you trim the leaves they usually start to deteriorate. They replicate by runners, so you get little plantlets that pop up from under the substrate. How high it grows depends on the conditions. Sag grows as little separate plants with leaves that emerge from a central point, not as separate leaves on a runner. So the more mature plants are usually taller. evilknieval69
Yep, i've got some "dwarf" sag here (of which i didn't grow) and the tallest plant is probably close to 20cm tall! So much for dwarf :-?
