Fmxmatt
I'm sure I saw him this morning before I went to work, but this afternoon he's nowhere to be seen. My Blenny is always out and about perched up on something, but tonight he's either hiding, or has gone to fishy heaven. All the other fish are happy as. Makes me wonder if my AWOL Brittlestar has perhaps had a snack of blenny? *shakes fist* Anyone know if blennys are prone to hide for certain reasons? jolliolli
I swear i didn't steal him! mine hides in the rockwork but always comes up when i open the tank lid. Is all your rockwork secure after your move around? Perhaps he is just adjusting to the new surroundings? Hope you find him!
Fmxmatt
Rocks are sturdier now than they were before I hope i find him too...... alive

Fmxmatt
I've had a good hunt for him, but can't find him Only hope is that he's decided to sleep in a rock for the evening. I'll be gutted if he has gone
markoshark
Your overflow box. Check it. I'd lost my manderin for a week, went to grab (wasp's) phosphate reactor and there he was!
wasp
They can jump sometimes did you check behind the tank? That's if he's not, hopefully, in the overflow or sump.
Fmxmatt
Yep checked all those places 2 or 3 times. Even checked inside the skimmer. Only thought is that he's possibly managed to jump through the small gap where 1 of my fans are while it wasn't running and ended up on the floor, then the dog has had fish for lunch. Although, hunting round in the tank about 2am this morning, i thought I had seen his head, but it may have just been a reflection
wilson
have you had a look this morning?

jolliolli
They can jump sometimes did you check behind the tank? wow didn't know that, might have to invest in some glass bracing around the sides of the tank then

Fmxmatt
Some good news, I've seen the brittlestar. Was a little concerned after the rock move that it may have got trapped. I know now this isn't the case.... still no sign of the blenny though. I think it might be time to accept that its not coming back
reef
He must be history as he should be out by know, Maybe he jumped out of the tank? what bristle star is it? do you have a pic.
Fmxmatt
I dont think tank jumping is possible with the panels on the tank. I guess theres a chance it got through the gap when the fan was off but its unlikely. If he did manage, the dog must've eaten him The brittlestar is 1 of the ones John had, that subsequently was from the same batch that Wilson & Sapphire ended up with thats been eating their coral... Makes me wonder if I'm the lucky one that got the fish eating one?
wasp
Yes when I saw the pic of those ones I did think they might have potential to eat fish, can't really tell though. If you feed it something like a shrimp or bit of mussel, how aggressive is it?
Fmxmatt
I can't get near it so haven't been able to feed it anything, its always hiding (probably with a fat belly!) I've seen it on the move tho when I first got it. Didn't think it would be quick enuf to catch a fish, but never know I suppose being a night hunter
wasp
My one, which was a known fish eating species, didn't look like it could catch a fish either in fact I just couldn't see how. That's until I saw it in action. Very sneaky, works it's tentacle around a perched fish without the fish noticing, till suddenly, fast as, coils all over it, in the case i watched the fish only JUST escaped, it was kinda gruesome / scary to watch. So I asked on RC about this and several people replied they had actually seen their green brittlestar eat fish. But your one isn't one of those, but even if it didn't kill your fish, it might have eaten it if it died.

wilson
i think he was one of the coolest marine fish ive seen
Fmxmatt
I just threw a bit of mussle into the tank in the area of the star... it grabbed it, but wasn't anything aggressive. If it is a fish eater, if I keep it fed, then it shouldn't need to hunt haha
wilson
yea i like my star i hand feed it flake food but if its going to eat corals and fish i wouldnt want to keep it
