moo3
My clown loach has some weird scrapes/fungus on him. I can't tell if it is fungus yet as I only noticed it when I got home and he wasn't like it this morning. The other clown has been chasing him around agressively and his black stripes are darker. I have removed him into a solitary tank to see what happens and to see if mybe there has been some agression and he has scraped himself on his shipwreck or not. Normally the two of them behave quite happily....any ideas?
Caryl
Quite possible he has damaged himself. They will chase each other but not usually too aggressively. If you only have 2 of them one may be trying to dominate the other and it may remain a problem.
moo3
Hi Caryl Thanks for your reply. He has worsened overnight and I don't think he is going to make it which is really sad because I've had him quite a while. I am treating him for velvet or ick so maybe this will help but his one of his hooks has protruded a couple of times this morning and he appears to be spasming, I don't hold out much hope. I guess with all the chasing he could have bumped himself badly and maybe has some internal injuries! All I can do now is hope that he will come right - doesn't look good though. Alan
how have you been treating it? have you been using any of the dye medications? ie. malachite green or Methylene blue? If so get it out of the stuff, they are allergic to it, and can die from it's use. Alan
moo3
Hi Alan I had used malachite green but only small dose this morning. I have rushed home from work to remove him and he was still this same as thios morning and the green had gone. Any way he died while I was here Looking at his wounds it appears not to have been fungal but definate scrape marks. He had lost his balance and couldn't stay upright. I think the other clown must have just bashed him too hard. I don't want to get another one as will be too small so will put the one that's left in our 4'tank with out other large fish. A silver shark, a red tail shark, a large plecko and a large silver angel. All, apart from plecko have lost thier partners over the last couple of years, so we got the big tank to cater to them. I think it will be fine, these varieties together any thoughts? Cheers Maureen
