slevin12
My red ear was mated on the 16th of september not sure if shes pregnant but hope so. Shes in a huge outdoor pond with a small fence around it. Should i expect her to lay around the 15th November? 60 days? shes 6" and the male is also 6" BTW at the start of the year she laid two infertile as she hadn't been near a male before. so in about 7 days? alanmin4304
I think they can carry the sperm for more than one lot of eggs (like guppies) and they lay when they are good and ready. I have a seperate tank that I put the females in when they are ready to lay. One female lays early and frequently and the other later and infrequently (one has laid 3 lots and the other none yet). I can tell by their behaviour when they are ready to lay. They get very restless and dig in the gravel frequently, then they dig in the gravel on the basking area and when they switch from digging with the front legs to the back it is time to move them. In the laying tank they get very restless and get up-down-up-down for a few days then lay. They are looking for the best place to lay but don't have much choice. repto
keep feeding her up with the best tucker you can find, small fish with bones etc ,minced lean oxheart with calcium added etc, when she stops eating she is full of eggs ,the better food you give her the more eggs and the more chance they will be viable.Get all your hatching stuff ready now rather than later when you need it! repto
don`t stuff around with things like palpating that you know nothing about. The turtle will lay when its ready, all you have to do is provide the right conditions and the best possible diet. After you get this right just sit back, watch and wait.I have bred over 1000 red ears, have yet to palpate one???
