wormalicious
Hi - any pointers would be greatly appreciated as I am a bit green about filters etc.. I have two Axo's and two Gold fish and a couple of little "feeding stock" fishies in my tank ( 60cm/30x30), a few plastic plants etc...I also have a stingray type of filter running constantly - allowing it too "airate" the tank with a few bubbles etc as well. My main concern is a fully cleaned the tank and its bits n bobs and 2-3 days later it seems very murky /dirty ... The filter inside the "stingray" is also dirty..do I replace this or clean it out? I realise spot cleaning is required of poo and left over food etc - although I have not done this since the clean out I was surprised that my nice clean tank got so dirty so quickly ! thoughts ? advice? Many thanks
newfish
Question - how long has your tank been running?? I'm not much help, as still very new myself but has the tank fully cycled? I wouldn't fully clean out your filter as you will lost your good media...if really worried you can take water from your tank and "wash" filter in that... this way you don't loss your media.... Goldfish are very "dirty" fish.... they poo alot!!!!!!! I'm sure someone here will be able to help more, good luck.

And in regards to the gold fish - cant wait till my Axo's are big enough to eat them !
snookie
the goldfish may try to eat the axos gills :-?
sharn
Agreed Snookie- and its not a nice thing to have to attempt to pull out a large goldfish from an axolotls mouth who is obviously in great discomfort when his eyes are a bit bigger than his mouth  Your tank will probably be going murky because it was completley cleaned, the cloudiness is a bacterial bloom while they try to get back to normal levels to process the waste being produced by the fishies and axies. It will go away by itself eventually once the tank is allowed to mature again. The dirtyness could depend on the foods being fed (frozen foods can be quite messy) and the bio load, which in your case is quite high for the tank size, you will probably want to upgrade to a 3 footer for the two axies once they get a little larger just so they have room to get out of each others faces (less nipped legs and gills then ) I have five axies in my four footer and have a small internal and that gets gunky pretty quick but i think in my case its purely to do with the small size of it.
