Guppy and snail problem

BnB

Recommended Posts

hi all made a bit of a silly mistake over the weekend by bidding on some guppies on TM went to pick them up yesterday thinking i'll just get males to pretty up the tank. but he didnt really have that many males and since he looked around 90 i couldnt say i didnt want the big plain pregnant females so now i'm stuck with six females which i am thinking are all pregnant. i did want to try and breed some but that was one day and when and how i wanted. So i wouldnt mind getting rid of them but then i wouldn't mind seeing what sort of fishy's pop out colour wise. and the other problem is they stress out and confuse my lampeyes. can anyone help or would there be many people who would want some free females. Also woke up this morning to find about 10 snails in my tank which werent there yesterday. Whats the best way to get rid of them as i have some snail rid but says not to use in soft water. i don't know how to tell if my water is hard or what

you can either use a snail trap, or try putting a piece of lettuce in the tank overnight and in the morning you'll 'hopefully' find most of them collected on the leaf. you can test the hardness of your water with a dKH kit, Chch water is usually pretty soft.

Dont worry too much about the female guppys.. they WILL be preggy. But in a community tank 99% of the fry will just get eaten. When you want to actually breed some just seperate out a female into a breeding tank or net to save them.

Cheers
