midge
Hi, Im planning on changing all my fish from a 80cm tank to a 120cm tank. I know tanks need cycling etc, but would my fish be ok if i used all the same stones, some of the water out of their existing tank and the internal filter? Because most of the stuff is being used now, would it still get new tank syndrome? I have about 50 community fish, and really dont want any floaters after this exercise! Thanks
ryanjury
If you use the existing filter and some of the water you will be fine.. Ive never worried about stones but if you wanted to change them too im sure it wouldn't do any harm Remember to top up the water gradually if your using cold or different water to whats already in there, good luck sounds like you have a good plan

Ianab
The filter from your existing tank is the most important part. You can move the water, gravel and ornaments across too, but most of the bacteria are in the filter. Move that and the fish into the new tank at the same time and you should be fine. Go easy on the feeding at first, less food = less ammonia released into the new tank. I'm guessing you will have a new bigger filter for the new tank? Just run that AND your old one together for a few weeks. This will allow your new filter to cycle, then you can remove your small filter and put it back in the small tank. Cheers Ian
michael.qian
agree with above, you should definitely be fine, because everything you are moving is currently from a established tank. Keep filter wet and if possible running during the whole time, so you don't lose any bacteria.
