The Great White Hand
Hi All My daughter's kindy has a "coldwater" tank with no light (about 90ltr). I have an AR980 with discus and lots of plants (different swords, crypts, anubias, val, java fern, java moss, ambulia, cambomba, rotala, riccia, aponagen (sic)). Will any of them cope in the kindy tank? WHAT DO YOU PUT IN A COLDWATER/NO LIGHTS TANK? Regards, TGWH
evilknieval69
WHAT DO YOU PUT IN A COLDWATER/NO LIGHTS TANK? Fish! But seriously, not alot of plants will survive in a coldwater, un-lighted tank, but java fern and java moss would be your best bets to start with
jim r
My java fern survived a Taupo winter outside behind the garage.

jn
I have some lilaeopsis in the bottom of a bigger than average barrel half. The barrel sits in a spot that only gets a couple hours of sun per day in the summer and NONE in the winter....I can't imagine much light gets right down to the bottom (it's about 70cm deep). It spent most of the winter frozen over. The plant is doing fine, as is my myriophyllum that's also right down at the bottom. Someone is seling some myriophyllum on trade me now I think. smidey
dont know about the plants but tape the lid down. my sis works in a childcare centre in queenstown, they lost fish when the spiced up playdough got posted into their tank. "It's quite normal for the kids to put play dough in the tank, we keep it on the lower bench so they can interact with the fish". "They dont normally die, maybe just because the extra sensory additives (spices like lavender etc) were mixed in that day they died".
