Teenage Bristlenose!

Ha ha, just thought I'd share my observations about my bristlenose... he's the first I've ever owned and he's growing his bristles...! They're about 1.5mm long... I'm not sure whether to be proud he's growing up or shocked at how ugly it makes him look! He's like a teenage boy growing facial hair before his first shave!!! ek?!!!

Our two Golden bristlenoses are about 6 months old. One is about 5cm and starting bristles but the other is only 2.5cm, pale and not a bristle in sight. Severly growth retarded and every day for the last 2 months we've been expecting it to pop off but it keeps hanging in there. The boy is so cute with his facial growth but the kind of cute that only a mother could love

 LOL Ira

I have two of those I think. One is much bigger than the other, 8cm now, and still no bristles on either of them! Silly non bristleschnozes. The big one is sleeping on her own personal driftwood ledge in the big tank right now..

We have two bristlenoses, bought them at the same time, one only a fraction bigger than the other, but he shot off with his growth, the other being very slow. Thought he was a boy and the other was a girl, but 'she' now seems to be growing bristles too :( I'd hoped we'd got a pair.

Sad news, our GBA died this morning  I suspect now that it may have had an obstruction and ultimately a perforation as it's abdomen is very black (hope photolink worked). In hindsight, I had noticed it's stomach looking quite dark and obvious but had put that down to the fish becoming more pale.

Hmmm, Hard to say. I have noticed that many gold bristlenoses do get some black patches on them. So that might not be a symptom of what killed it. And it does appear to have the body shape of a female, so would explain it's smaller size.

That smaller one may not be sick. You may just have one of those horrible strange freakish mutations known as "A girl"

Oooohhh!! That would also explain why 1 of my 2 is smaller and has no bristles. Bought them both when they were just babies. Has anyone ever taken them out of the tank and had them in a bucket while doing an overhaul? Try to tip them back in and they're still in the bucket with no water in it hahaha.
