MorknMindy
We have decided to get back into tropical fish after 18 months and have a question. In my old tank I had some Black algae and was wondering if I use the gravel from the old tank in the new tank would it reappear. The gravel from the old tank has been stored out of water for 18 months.
Adrienne
I sterilise all my gravel before I reuse it. I chuck in some janola and water and leave it to soak for a few hours. Rinse it out really well and leave it in the sun to dry out. Works great and I've never had any problems, in fact I do it with tanks, filters, heaters, sponges -everything! MorknMindy
ran out of janola should I boil it?
smidey
use budget bleach, it has less additional chemicals then the more $ bleaches & rinse well. & if it does come back use flourish excell to get rid of it, will be gone in a few days & mine never returned. HummingBird
Try just leaving it in the hot sun to bake for a few days, it's as effective a sterilizer as boiling or janola, and significantly cheaper.
