Foxglove
Does anyone know if cory species can interbreed? I would think it's only possible with very closely related species, certainly within the sub groups (punctatus, barbatus, aeneus etc.) Given the huge number of corys being discovered, I'm guessing some natural hybridisation has occurred. I've got four species, and discovered some large eggs in a tank containing adults of two species - C. metae and C. schwartzii. they are in different sugroups, so I expect they couldn't interbreed. As to the eggs, I'm picking it's the schwartzii. Only eight eggs so far, but here's hoping I can raise them!
carla
Does anyone know if cory species can interbreed? I would think it's only possible with very closely related species, certainly within the sub groups (punctatus, barbatus, aeneus etc.) I have my suspicions that this fish here is a hybrid: You can click on the pic for a bigger version. I had a "flock" of Corydoras similis and one of Corydoras trilineatus (bought as C. julii) in the same tank. The C. similis ended up being only one pair in the end and started to "hang out" with the C. trilineatus. Many months later we discovered this funny looking specimen. It could of course be just a strange looking C. trilineatus but somehow I doubt it. I guess he/she has to be separated soon before this story gets any further ... purplecatfish
Yes, definitely. Planet catfish has pictures of 2 different hybrids: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/index.php?task=&genus_id=1&family_id=
