Matthew
I am purchasing some of these soon. They will be my first killies that I have kept. I currently plan to keep six in a 1.5 foot tank *1*1. Any tips on the care of these, and the appropriateness of this tank size would be appreciated. cheers

Not the species I'd chose as my first killie. > I currently plan to keep six in a 1.5 foot tank *1*1. That'll be fine. > Any tips on the care of these... Riccia is your friend. ;-) Lots of very small live food (BBS etc, small daphnia, maybe grindals). They're not all that hard to breed but raising the fry is tricky. I've never managed to get them past the 2nd or 3rd generation, and I've spent a lot of time and money trying... I'd still try again though, they're one of my favourite fish ever but have been a constant source of frustration over the last 15 years or so... Good luck. Andrew. Matthew
woohoo they arrived today. I was at the LFS even before they had opened the box (talk about keen). unfortunately only six arrived (20 ordered) so I had to hope that I had a mix of male and female. as it happens i ended up with 2 males and 4 females, which was exactly what i was after. what would people advise to feed the killies as there main staple diet. I have a variety of live foods, but those of you with experience may prefer one type over another. Please advise. thanks

I'd be happy. I was worried they might be Sid Smithies excess males. I'm out with the daughter of a LFS owner tomorrow night so may ask if I can get some. Friends in low places are good things to have > ... what would people advise to feed the killies as there main > staple diet. Adults are so small your options are limited. I'd advise bbs and grindal worms. Daphnia and newly hatched mosquito larvae are good but hard to use as a staple. Good luck. Keep me in mind for any fry you might end up with. Be warned, you may become addicted to killies.... Andrew.
Matthew
Be warned, you may become addicted to killies too late, i am already planning more tanks for more killies. my wife doesn't support the idea of us sleeping on the couch, but it would give me an extra room for killies if she did
