jasper
Just got myself a couple of red tailed black sharks today... this may be a silly question but in the shop, they were fine just cruising around etc. When I put them in the tank at home one keeps chasing the other one constantly. it does'nt seem to be biting or anything just chasing non stop. is this normal? or should I return one of the sharks? Caryl
You do not put 2 red tailed sharks in a tank together - unless it is a very large tank (6ft+). The smaller one will be killed.
jasper
oh bugger! guy in shop didnt say anything, Doh!
mr pleco
yeah bugger ! best to remove one now if you can, in shop tanks they have no real home just a holding cell but at home they quickly find the best spot in it and become very territorial towards each other have had two in a four foot tank well planted for a while but removed one as its life there just wasnt peaceful ... hope you have luck with this problem and the LFS wont always tell you the truth that stops the till from ringing but there are some good ones out there best plan is if you have a fish in mind ask in here about it before you buy two or more some even need a group to stay at their best so ask in here figure between us all we could cover most fish youd find in nz ..lol
Captain Conkout
Yeah everything I have found says redtail = badboy of the tank. 2 badbois and you get drivebys and dead homeys.
jasper
Thanks heaps for the info, just took one back to the shop and the store owner appologised and said he would inform the young employee not to recomend selling Red Tail Sharks in pairs (or more) in the future... Ps. Feel better now as I was getting concerned for the poor little tacker getting abused.
